Flow of Attention

Filed under: Music Video, Philosophy — binbag @ 4:16 am

The most soothing art and music are those that allows our attention flow into them. Things that are good are always in form of a flow. Music is a play of this so called flow, in the form of tunes and beats, it dances along with our attention. The arts and all things beautiful facilitate flow. Because the object is nice and perfect, our mind has no chance for any intrusive inner voices, instead we keep a sort of quiet attention as we indulge in the object. And that short moment of flowing attention – we coin as happiness.

Making Music

Filed under: Music Video — binbag @ 11:01 pm

omg how do you actually make music? i find it so hard.. cause it’s not just something you can think up like say lyrics? you actually have to experiment with tunes to know what is good. and i know nuts about tunes and keys. i should probably buy a keyboard and teach myself..

Music is good for your Heart

Filed under: Music Video — binbag @ 1:40 pm

I came across this article on MSNBC.com -
Music to your ears is music for your heart, too
Songs that make our hearts soar can make them stronger too, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

They found that when people listened to their favorite music, their blood vessels dilated in much the same way as when laughing, or taking blood medications.

Miller’s team tested 10 healthy, non-smoking men and women, who were told to bring their favorite music.

They spent half an hour listening to the recordings and half an hour listening to music they said made them feel anxious while the researchers did ultrasound tests designed to show blood vessel function.

Compared to their normal baseline measurements, blood vessel diameter increased 26 percent on average when the volunteers heard their joyful music. Listening to music they disliked — in most cases in this group heavy metalnarrowed blood vessels by six percent(HAHA), Miller said.

Most of the volunteers chose country music but Miller said the style is not so important as what pleases each individual.

Artistes making it in Overseas

Filed under: Music Video — binbag @ 8:35 pm

Recently, i found that South East-Asian talents are making it in Taiwan and Korea (not yet Japan). This is great news! When I was in Sec Sch, only a number of famous artistes are actually from SEA countries, mainly Stephanie Sun from Singapore, and Fish Leong, Wu Yin Liang Pin(?) both from Malaysia. Now you have JJ Lin, Tanya Chua, and i heard that recently quite a number of Singaporean singers are on the Taiwanese singing contest show 超级星光大道. That’s great! But even more amazing, is when singers take up a new language and make it in a new market. BoA is really successful both in Korea and in Japan, now she is preparing to debut in the US. But more amazing to me, is finding out that people from SEA are taking up Korean, and are going to debut soon in Korea! We know SEA is crazy about Korean dramas, but I did not expect anyone to actually be serious about being an artiste in Korea, but that has become a reality.

Nichkhun Horvejkul is from Thailand and is under JYP Entertainment (Rain and Wonder Girls). This Vietnamese girl, i think her name is Hoang Nguyen or something like that, is debuting as a member of a korean girlband consisting of a Japanese, a Korean, a Vietnamese and a Chinese girl. And she started out as another Korean Drama lover who picked up the language from there.

A number of Chinese singers have made it in Korea, namely Zhang Li Yin (Jang Ri In) and Han Geng (Han Kyung) of Super Junior.

Sandara Park grew up in Philippines, got her break through this Philippine Singing Contest, is now back in Korea ready to debut under YG entertainement (Se7en, Big Bang).

So what is my point of writing all these?? It is this, Where are the Indonesian artistes? I mean, Indonesia has the 4th largest population, with 200 million people. If Singapore can churn out Stephanie Sun and JJ Lin, Indonesia should be able to churn out at least 50 Stephanie Suns! Ok I know it doesn’t work that way but you get what i mean. There has bound to be talent out there, just need some nurturing, and you will be ready to take on the limelight overseas. I hope I can see an Indonesian debut in Korea someday! That is my wish..

In other news, Darus Suharto an Indonesian based in Toronto, Canada has made into the final table of the biggest poker event, the WSOP Main Event. 6844 people took part, and he has made it into the top 9, guaranteeing himself at least $900,000 in prize money! (which could go all the way up to $9,000,000 if he grabs the top spot). Update: Darus finished 6th, he gets like $1-3m dollars in prize money i think.
