Packing for Jakarta

Filed under: Idea, Travel — binbag @ 7:00 pm

Right now i am packing my clothes and misc things i need to bring to Jakarta. Today is the 26th of January and the 1st day of the Chinese New Year. I was tempted to be corny and call it Chinese ‘Niu’ Year like i see everywhere but i shall refrain lol. I have surprisingly lots of clothes, which is shocking considering i’m not a fan of clothes. I guess i have a lot just because i don’t throw them away. In the middle of packing i just thought of a really cool idea. What if you could have like an online directory for your clothes? Wouldn’t that be cool? Like say if you buy a shirt, they would give you a URL, and you could go home and sign up to that URL which confirms you as a buyer of that piece of clothing, and you can add it to your online clothing collection. Wouldn’t that be cool? Then you can not only upload the pictures of you wearing that shirt, but also see other people wearing the same shirt. You can share details of where you bought the shirt, and there will be ratings and reviews, just like ones you would see on Amazon.

A lesson on AK

Filed under: Poker — binbag @ 12:55 am

I am back to playing Sit N Gos after not playing for about a week. Because i can’t get wireless in my bedroom, can you believe it :/ it’s just like 5m away with a wall in between and it can’t receive the signal.

I begin playing 2 SNGs at a time just a few hours ago, and i’m back with very disappointing results. All I remember is that on both tables i went out with AK. Was pretty crazy. I was dealt AK and lost half my stack to Mr.X when the flop didn’t connect. The next hand, guess what, AK again. 350 left so i went all-in, no brainer. Mr.X called. Flop came 10 K 10. Mr.X who won against my AK last hand, this hand flopped trip Tens to beat my AK again! I can’t believe his luck against AK. So i was bust. The next table, guy raised UTG like 3xBB, i re-raised to 1100, or pretty much all-in for me. He held 88 vs my AKs. Flop didn’t connect and i was out. Wow.. really.. 3 AceKings summarized the whole 2 games.

Played another 2 SNG. Blind was 50. Raised to 200 with AK. And i remember this clearly, the other table i was playing i was dealt KK. So i was raising 4x BB on both tables with monster hands. The AK table, someone called, and another re-raised like 3x and all-in. I don’t know, but i can’t lay this down i think, he might be having 88 99 TT JJ or even QQ and i still have a chance. I just can’t lay it down. I don’t know how tight he is so i can’t determine if he really has the goods. So i called, and he had KK. At the same time my KK on the other table got called by a 99. Won with KK. And the other table i lost with AK to KK. I finished 2nd in the game at last. Heads-up took pretty long. I got J2. Flop came J2x. I checked. He had re-raised preflop so now he went all-in 6000. I called instantly. He showed 66. turn came blank and river 6. So it wasn’t fair right there. But i know i made a good play. But still didn’t feel good to be losing with big hands all day. My anti-tilt is working hard tonight.

Now i just played another 2 SNG, and lost both again. Wow, am i tilting or just plain unfocused and not thinking. limped with AJ 4-handed 100. He went allin for 1100, i had 1400 left and called thinking 4-handed most likely i have the best hand, or whatever cos i just liked my hand and won’t lay it down to an unknown all-in which might be stealing. He showed QQ and i just -.- Flop came X X J and slowly watched on half praying and expecting to connect. Turn came A! And feared for a split second for what seemed like a familiar occurence… river Q -.- It’s happened a lot to me. The worse hand connects with two pair only for the river to make the other guy the set. It is only right he won and i shouldn’t even expect to win with the lousier hand.

So i learned a lesson. Many lessons. Don’t limp-in with speculative hands no matter, tight is the best policy. AK is not in the same class as AA KK. There are times it is right to lay it down to an all-in. AJ AQ is not a good card to call all-ins with no matter how short-handed, how shortstacked and desperate that guy seemed. The 2nd best hand will always be the 2nd best hand, and there is no reason to risk your chips that can better be used in more sure situations like when you get Aces Kings or draw a flush/straight. We have to laydown good cards and be content with not knowing whether you made a good/bad laydown, and that’s poker!

Re-love Sit’n Gos

Filed under: Health, Poker — binbag @ 1:02 am

Okay, i have been busy playing cash games all these while i have forgotten all the joy of Sit N Gos. So when my cash game isn’t going anywhere, i tried to play a couple of Sit N Gos and immediately fell in love with it again! A big part of it is because i actually have an edge in Sit’ N Gos. Whereas in cash games, i don’t know what my edge is, which probably means i don’t even have an edge. Whereas playing Sit N Gos i love how they have ranks, the blinds increase and they complete within a specific time unlike cash games which is the same blinds and goes on forever, it can get kinda boring. Sit N Gos i can safely say i have edge at the $1 level, which i can’t even say about micro limit cash games like $0.05/$0.10 on Full Tilt. I played 5 Sit N Gos today, finished 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 1st and 2nd. Which i think is pretty decent. Now i know i may not be at the level to grind cash games yet, but i can definitely grind Sit’n Gos for a stable predictable amount everyday, which is all that matters to me. I don’t care if i win $10 in cash game today because tomorrow i might lose $8, and it seems like there is no stability to it. Whereas in Sit’ N Gos i can safely say i can finish top 3 most of the time, which is at least $0.55 profit per game. Even though it’s little, it’s risk-free profit. In cash games, i don’t know, i seem to only do well when there is a fish in the game, like make some really retarded calls. I don’t have a system to play cash games yet unlike Sit’ N Gos.

In other news i have fallen half-sick yesterday and today. Not officially sick, but just feeling slightly unwell. It’s funny because the day before i fell sick i drank Vitamin C and ate a lot, and the day before i went to swim and exercised. I don’t know what caused me to fall sick, maybe because i stay in my cold room all day and don’t go out. Or maybe i don’t eat at the right time, but when i eat i force myself to eat too much. Will try to sleep earlier, my sleep resolution is the hardest to fulfill. I want to sleep at 10/11pm and wake up 6am everyday but it seems to be hard for a night owl like me. Well at least i must get some exercise in the outdoors in the morning, i think it will do me a lot of good. Looking forward to grind Sit’N Gos, and achieve stable profit everyday and build my bankroll up slowly.

The turn was just perfect. He bet out strong and i knew he could have the 4, now a flush or straight don’t worry me. The river came a 3. And it was just perfect. I went all-in on a semi-bluff that i might have the 3, and that he who had the 4 would definitely think at best it’s a split. Then he would be in for a rude awakening :/ Feel kinda bad to be check-call-shoving like that.

Otherwise, poker has been slow for me. Been on a steady downslope, mostly due to bad continuation bets and calling down bets instead of folding it early. Learnt my lesson and i hope i’m good to go now. Watch Daniel play this morning, he plays very tight game and rakes it in a lot when he has a good hand. I’ma follow his style, and although it can get pretty slow and boring sometimes, it is the safest way to build your bankroll? I don’t know if i have a passion for poker the game, or watching poker. I love to watch Poker shows, but when i play too much and am not winning much, i quickly lose interest in the game, or coin it as boring or “luck-based”. Recently i have been thinking of what i really want. I find that playing Poker is one thing i like but as i find, i can get sick of it too. So i am just asking myself what i really want. I don’t want to be playing Poker for some time and then find that all i want is actually the money. Then i might as well be going into business. I must love Poker for what it is for me to do it all my life and i’m just not sure whether it is that strong of a passion for me.

Sorta Bad Beats

Filed under: Poker — binbag @ 3:54 pm

Ok, i held aces and despite raising 3x BB i had 4 callers into the flop which came Jc Kd 5c. I bet out half and got 2 callers into the turn. Now i know this is a heavy drawing board, they could have a Jack, a King, 2 random clubs, Q10 and waiting for open ended draw. I was just chanting to myself “2 of diamonds, 2 of diamonds” (a card that would not help either of them as it completes no flush or straight). And lo and behold 2 of diamonds came !! I was like how coincidental is that, and i was like f this, if they are not going to fold to half pot bets, i might as well go all-in now. If one of them happens to have KJ, and already have my aces beat, then big deal. So I went all-in $1.85 into the $2+ pot, and surprisingly they both called. One showed J pair with Q kicker. Another showed K pair with Q kicker. No straight or flush draws whatsoever. River came a blank and i took the pot earning like $4.50.

I swear whenever you win marginally you are going to get some bad beats soon. So like 2 hands after that this happened

I must take it like a man i guess. I re-raised him 3x on the flop, and he called with Top pair rag kicker. That’s pretty loose isn’t it? Then the turn made him a lower two pair, so he called there and it was alright, at least hehad something. And the river had to come another heart (20% chance) to make him the flush. -.-

No comments. To tell you the truth i thought i might be behind here as i thought he had Ace King. He raised preflop and looked strong. But when he turned it over i was like phew.. my Q kicker is good. Then river came a Ten. I was still blurr like okay does that mean we split or?? Omg!!! He wins with 10 two pair. Major ZzZzZz that’s a 3 outer right there, 8% chance of happening and he hit it.

So after i won a hand with AA, i proceed to lose it all back in 2 hands, to 20% and 8% events, such is poker!

But i flopped a full house with pocket Jacks later and earned a decent amount to make me profit for the day at least. Board was K A K x J. I bet he call all the way to the river and then i re-raised him 10c to $3.50 (which i worried was too much) after making full house, hoping he had King Trips and would bite. He called instantly, which is a bummer.. it means he was very confident and would bite even if i put him all-in. But when i checked the hand history to see what he had it was just shocking, he only had A7 !! wtf.. This guy is obviously bad to call such a high raise on the river. Next hand, he went all in for $3 (which is 30x BB, still a lot to play with). Ok well maybe he is tilted, and is just all-ining with a decent hand. But then he revealed 7 3 offsuit. And the guy who called him held AK. GG. What a card to pick to all-in, 73 offsuit. I was like ‘wow you called $3 with A7?” and he was like “anyone still want my money? just say yes, and i’ll buy-in more” I certainly want his money, especially if he is going all-in with 73off, it’s perfect to earn money. But i ended up saying “save it.” Really.. i find it heartless to grab a tilted player’s money. But isn’t that what poker is about? Getting money from bad players? I don’t know.. i think if i say “yes, buy-in more” it is actually encouraging him to do something which is obviously bad for him. He left and said like “sigh.. gd luck.” “you guys don’t need it anyway seeing how lucky you already are”. Just go to sleep my friend.. we don’t need luck to beat 73 off.

I played against Kenny Tran today!

Filed under: Poker — binbag @ 10:11 pm

UPDATE:  I now think it is highly probably this isn’t the real Kenny Tran. The forum people mentioned something about him letting his wife play on the low-stakes using his account, i think it might be true. He can’t be playing everyday on the Low-limits, no pro would do that, unless you’re doing a $10 to $10k challenge like Daniel is.

Played against Kenny Tran on Full Tilt Poker today! For all of you who don’t know, he is a Professional Poker Player.

http://www.wsopacademy.com/poker-instructors/kenny-tran.html

http://www.pokerpages.com/players/profiles/56446/kenny-tran.htm

Here’s a video of him.

I can’t believe it when i saw him playing on the $0.05/$0.10 table, which is the lowest stake on Full Tilt Poker. I mean he wins hundreds of thousands of dollars playing in tournaments live. What the hell is he doing buying in $60 to play on $0.05/$0.10 table? Lol. I think 1) It might not be him, it’s his friend/wife/kid 2) He is trying to accumulate money from $0 to like $10,000 as a sort of challenge like Chris Ferguson did a few years ago. I queued up and was 14th on the waiting list. It took only like an hour or two and i managed to get a seat on the table. and no way i was going to give up my seat :P

kenny2pair2

I checked the flop, he bet out, i called. I put him on a Jack or a King. The turn came an Ace, which is not a good card. As you can see i still bet out, he moved all-in, i think he might have KJ or AJ because of how tight he is been playing. I called anyway, since this is a capped game and i can’t lose anymore than $3 in a hand. He showed AJ two pairs and won the pot. I should’ve re-raised on the flop, but i wanted to feel good about trapping a pro, and it backfired!

Another hand where my slow-playing backfired again against Kenny.

I tried to sell my seat at one time. I said “I’ll sell my seat for $5″ … and when someone said okay i said  “anyone higher than $5?” And Kenny broke his silence and said “no ebaying seats”… “i’ll leave”…  I think he was getting mad at me lol. One guy really wanted to play Kenny, and Kenny said he will wait for him. He was at #3 on the waiting list, and no one wanted to give up their seat, although i should when i busted out, i didn’t want to give up my seat with Kenny Tran. I think i should have, and Kenny certainly wanted me to leave so other people could play but i was just being stubborn, i really wanted to beat him in a hand. Later he said “You guys are incredible” I don’t know if he was referring to how i was trying to sell my seat or it was because there were 44 people on the waiting list, some of which have been waiting for like 2-3 hours. Kenny asked the guy at #3 to make a table, and he’ll join him there. And then he left to play on that table. I didn’t join, i don’t feel welcomed anymore. But 3 of the other guys on my table went to join the other table he was now playing at. I was half tilted most of the time i was playing anyway, i just wasn’t focused on playing properly, i was more focused on trying to beat Kenny in a hand (which didn’t work). And if you’re wondering how he plays, he is VERY TIGHT. He folds most of his hands. He occasionally limps in with cards like J9 suited, and when he raises or calls a raise, you can be sure he has a huge hand – AQ AK TT JJ QQ KK. But he got lucky too.. as you can see from this sick hand…

Phew! I still don’t think it’s a good idea to call an under-the-gun 4x BB raise by tight guy with AQo. There is just too much possibility of getting dominated. AA KK QQ AK all dominate AQ, plus it’s unsuited. The only hands i can beat with that kind of raise is 88 99 1010 JJ KQs, and even these are pretty much a coin flip. It turns out he had JJ. He wrote it in the chat later on. I guess i got lucky, and i’m not sure if i would want to call this again in the future. But i thought the bet on the turn was pretty good try to take him off if he really had like AK/KQ, or if he really is convinced i had like 99/A9/K9/Q9/J9/44/66 he would even lay down the JJ QQ KK AA? Yeah, but right then my decision making was just, he checks i bet hard to represent a good hand. Definitely should think more next time i’m in the middle of a situation like this.

Cruise Poker

Filed under: Cash Game, Poker — binbag @ 6:49 pm

I don’t know why i find it bad tasted to tell other people about our winnings. Like, it’s so bad tasted. But i can’t stop doing it, or feel like doing it. I don’t know what good can come out of telling people about our successes. You tell a person, “I won this this this!!!” and that guy will either go “oh ok” or like reluctantly congratulate you, or worse they will feel uncomfortable and ignore you. That’s why it’s better to keep successes as ’silent incentives’ as Carlos Slim said. The trip was good and i got to see Singapore’s best player on the cruise! Which is shocking at first..

There was only one NLHE table. Blinds was 3/5! Kinda scary to hear at first, but less so when you start playing. Bought in $300 ($250 + free $50 bonus), won $97 at one point, but slowly dwindled down to $65. Key hands was Jh10h flop trip Jacks on the turn, KQ flop King pair and got called by Will who had Jack pair lol He didn’t believe me cos i check the TPTK on the flop. After midnight we played again, like the 2nd hand i got 99. Guy UTG raised to $20 4xBB i called. 3 other players called? I thought of re-raising here due to the many people after who might just limp-in, decreasing my chances after the flop. Anyway i was too afraid to make a big re-raise with like my first hand, i sat down for barely minutes. The flop came 9d 8s 2d. Guy UTG first raiser preflop made it $50, pot was $100 or $80. I was right after him, made it $50, and $100 more to go. Guys after folded. This guy don’t even think long and said “You’re committed right” commenting how i just put in $20, and $150 into the pot now, so i only had $130 left. He said “so i’ll put you all-in”. I was kinda afraid now because he appeared so calm like he had a big hand. I had to call, so there i was first hand i played and got put all-in. But i had the nuts so i’m not afraid. I was hoping he reveal the AA or KK, which i’ll be a fav against. All the chips are in he asked “What’d you have? set?” “Yeah set of 9s” “I have nut flush draw” Then the people on the table were like woah woah, definitely fun to see a made hand against a huge draw. Turn came A (not diamond), and river came Ace of hearts (not diamond). Then everyone just went ‘OHHHH’. I also thought i had lost at that moment. At least the table thought i had lost due to an unfortunate case of runner runner. Even the dealer took in our cards and pushed the chips to the guy. Thankfully for my friend W, who was also sitting beside, who shouted saying “(He has) Full House! Full house!” As in the set of 9s, although runner runner aced, would have made full house 999AA over the AAA. Then everyone began to realize and all the chips was pushed to me. I just kept quiet, even though i knew i made the full house, everyones reaction and the situation just made me so nervous, my heart was beating so quick. Of course it’s the biggest pot i have ever won, but i didn’t see it like that since the stakes are so high, and there were a few $1000+ pots that night.

W and I went home tomorrow, both profiting almost the same amount $250 or so. That felt so good, i don’t know how to explain. It’s good to be able to win enough money on the table to cover the cruise, room, food and still have some felt. It felt like we were free-loading off the cruise which was definitely a good feeling :)

I got into a marginally better hand situation, and there was nothing that guy could do. I didn’t deserve credit i think there was no way that guy could have not gone all-in, it’s just unlucky to be in his spot, and lucky to be in mine. But money earned by luck usually go away quick… just 6 minutes later, all my $27.90 went away like this…

Now here’s the thing, i could have laid this down. I had a hint on the flop with his re-raise. I raised $2 into a $3.35 pot which is just shy of 2/3. Now a re-raise could mean he had AQ and thought he had the best kicker. But really i was thinking he had A10. So i just called thinking it’s either of those. Then when the King came, i knew i had the best hand, i flopped top two pair! I expected him to check in fear (if he had AQ or A10 as i thought), but he lead out betting $8.50 into the $13 pot. Now this really fcuked me up. Now i had to deal with the possibility of him having 88 or 1010. Which is just brutal. So i called the turn bet reluctantly, hoping he had the second best pair which is A 10. Which is really stupid thinking back because why would he bet out so much if he knew i could most probably have AK and had hit two pair. So there was only one possibility, he had 88 or 1010. At the river, he bet out another $12, i already had $15 in the pot so i was like ok whatever call. Then he showed 88 for a set. Then i’m like ok i have only $1.15 left. I looked back at the hand and thought i definitely could have laid this down at the turn, but right after flopping top two pair (which looks so nice btw), i don’t know how i’m going to do that, but i could have done that, and i’m going to make these kind of laydowns in the future if i would want to keep my money. This is the biggest pot i’ve played to date, sadly had to lose it.

Then i went to 4-table 0.05/0.10. And this happened. I played totally bad here. Shud’ve layed it down on the flop, but it’s QQ (yet again the nice hand error). On the flop, i could’ve layed it down too. When we went all-in i was just waiting to see his KK or AA. Then the turn came a Q i was like omg. Then later he told me he had Aces, i said sorry. But i managed to give him back that $6 a few hands later when i was unsuccessful chasing the nut flush draw. I said to him “there i return to you Blaazze lol” then he said “lol” money made from luck will go away quickly, so you shouldn’t really be too happy about those.

Tripled up here. Nothing special, thanks to the guy with the worst hand for raising it up for me haha. They all had Q, two with Ace kicker, and one with 5 kicker. The guy with 5 kicker raise it up 4 times, and that made a good platform for me to go all-in for 3 times his raise. The other with Top pair top kicker of course followed. It’s crazy how bad the guys on this table play, I manage to get to $25 eventually from a buy-in of $2!

In the book I’m reading Power Hold’em by Daniel, it’s written inside that we don’t have to worry about set over set. Because according to statistics, even a pro poker player who plays everyday will only witness a set over set twice in a year. I had it once playing on facebook, nows the second time. Just glad i’m on the receiving end. I thought he was value betting QA throughout.

I was down like $30 in the first half an hour.. then down to $45. But luckily i managed to gain $15 back, So I’m down $28.55 for the day, which is not that bad. Hopefully i can gain it back soon. I love multi-tabling btw, it keeps me occupied. I started playing 6 tables just now and i love the action, I’m bound to get a good card on one of the tables, so I’m always occupied and interested. Too bad i can only squeeze 6 tables into my screen without them overlapping each other. But 6-tables is just right for me, not too much, not too little. Again the lesson today is the slogan from weaktight.com which is “Fold When You’re Beat”. I think this is so true. Winners makes the best laydowns. My thoughts are all jumbled up right now, not thinking well, better go to sleep.

I could have laid this down, when he re-raised my re-raise. A smart tight player would not re-raise a reraise unless he has the nuts. He must have noticed that i have been calling the flop, checking the turn, and once that 3rd spades came, there was a high probability i had hit the flush. When he re-raised me from 0.75 to 3.00, i thought there was still a good chance he only has trip kings, so i re-raised to 9.00, which is kinda overbetting actually. Right here, if he only has trip kings, he would just call fearing the flush. However he re-raised all-in for my 9.00 left, i called and was fearing for the worst, mainly, KJ or K3 or K5. And he showed the nuts. I definitely could have avoided this if i thought of how smart a player he is, and how unlikely he would re-raise twice without the nuts.

On a site note I feel belittled by the problems i am facing, i feel so small fighting these so called problems. It has nothing to do with other people or anything, it is a fight that i am too cowardly to face. however i can feel myself gaining momentum, let’s see how it turns out.
